NCAA FINAL FOUR TRANSFORMED

NCAA Final Four Engagement

For the Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament, NCAA enlisted our team to deliver a groundbreaking 4D projection mapping experience using an automated scrim system, enhancing the opening with minimal equipment and zero interference with in-house systems.

4D PROJECTION MAPPING AND AUTOMATED SCRIM SYSTEM

NCAA wanted to create a memorable and entertaining projection mapping experience for the Men’s Basketball Final Four Tournament game openers. Traditional court mapping would not work as attendees who had floor seats, including the parents and closest relatives to the student-athletes, were actually sitting below the raised court. Our team needed to design an innovative solution that would engage everyone in the opening experience without interfering with the live audience, or the television broadcast cameras and systems.
We collaborated with Tait Towers to design and build a 4-dimensional, 30ft x 50ft automated scrim based system that dropped down from the center-hung without interfering with the in-house systems. This solution allowed us another canvas to augment the court projection mapping, elevating the entire experience and engaging every single seat in the house (the activation looked amazing from broadcast as well). While every other technical design firm insisted that you would need a minimum of twelve streams of projection, we were able to do it in four.
Overall, the technical design we created drastically simplified the installation process and the amount of equipment needed to execute the event. None of the solutions interfered with any of the other in-house systems in the arena and the overall system was installed in less than 4 hours.
