In the heart of Miami Dade College’s (MDC) new AI Center, a permanent AI-powered hologram, called Sky, now greets students and visitors, showcasing what’s possible when innovative technology meets visionary goals. As the centerpiece, Sky sets a new standard for educational institutions using artificial intelligence to enhance campus experiences. We were thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking project at AV Concepts.
BUILDING A VISION
MDC sought a solution that could assist visitors with campus information, answer questions, and provide real-time updates—all while being ADA-accessible. This wasn’t just about building a hologram but crafting an AI-driven experience that would leave a lasting impression.
TURNING A VISION INTO REALITY
Despite the tight 2.5-month timeline, we worked alongside the ongoing construction to deliver a dynamic and engaging experience. Utilizing IBM Watson for AI processing, real-sense cameras depth perception, and real-time generative graphics, we ensured seamless user interactions through voice recognition, cloud processing, and interactive lighting cues.
THE PATH TO SUCCESS
Every project has its hurdles, and this one was no exception. We had to navigate a tight deadline, all while the AI Center was being built around us. Additionally, during our R&D phase, we needed to pivot to TouchDesigner from Omniverse and quickly adapt to the new software system to stay on track.
DELIVERING INNOVATION
Sky features a custom backend web portal for remote management, morphing facial animations for location-based questions, and floating particles during information processing. The surrounding environment responds interactively, signaling when Sky is active, enhancing both accessibility and engagement.
